United Kingdom Seismicity
The United Kingdom has a low level of seismicity compared to many other countries in the world. This is because the UK does not sit on a fault line between tectonic plates. Because of the low seismic activity, the earthquakes that the UK does have are small and mostly hardly felt.
Despite this, the UK does have a few hundred small earthquakes a year. Because of this, the British Geological Survey seismologists completed a newly updated seismic hazard assessment for the UK. With this information, the Institution of Civil Engineers have updated information to help design structures in the UK that have earthquake resistance.
